Abstract

The study analyzed the positioning of psychologists in Instagram posts from the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP) on three social issues debated in 2023: the Marco Temporal [time frame], decriminalization of abortion, and LGBT+ marriage. Using Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA), 425 comments were examined: 239 were unfavorable to the CFP's stance, 164 were favorable, and 22 were neutral or unclear. Comments reflected both support for the CFP’s involvement in human rights issues, emphasizing the role of critical psychology in social justice, and criticism of the CFP for taking a political stance, arguing it should remain apolitical and focus on professional matters. The findings highlight the ongoing debate over psychology’s social and political role, reinforcing the need for a more contextualized education aligned with human rights.
