STERILIZATION OF RIVERSIDE WOMEN IN THE INTERIOR OF AMAZONAS: (DIS)PATHS OF VULNERABILITY
Keywords:
Tubal ligation, Vulnerability, Reproductive autonomy, Riverside women, Public healthAbstract
The study analyzes the multiple dimensions of vulnerability in the process of surgical sterilization among riverside women in Nova Olinda do Norte, Amazonas. This is a qualitative and exploratory research, with interviews conducted with eleven women, to understand how living conditions, public policies and power relations influence their reproductive decisions. The results were organized into three axes: Individual, Social and Institutional Vulnerabilities. Tubal ligation, often presented as the only contraceptive option, is the result of decisions shaped by social and institutional pressures, rather than autonomous choices, exacerbating inequalities and restricting reproductive autonomy. The study highlights the urgent need for public policies that promote reproductive social justice and ensure access to quality health services for riverside populations.
