Political Ideology: differences on political engagement and actions to reduce prejudice

Abstract

The study aimed to verify whether differences in political ideology would affect the level of prejudice against homosexuals, support for social movements and organized social groups, the intention to participate in activist actions and in actions that aim to reduce prejudice and promote diversity. Participated in the survey 658 people, who answered an online questionnaire with the research measures, which was shared on online social networks and in a message exchange application. The results indicated a positive association between conservative political ideology and prejudice and a negative association between egalitarian political ideology and prejudice. It was also found that those who defend an egalitarian political ideology were more involved with the reduction of prejudice, the promotion of diversity, with the engagement in actions aimed at supporting social movements, and with political activism. The results were discussed considering the context of political-ideological polarization in Brazilian society.
