The PARTY (DE)IDENTIFICATION: BETWEEN PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE

entre a teoria psicanalítica e a ciência política

Abstract

In this article, we propose a dialogue between Psychoanalytic Theory and Political Science based on a theoretical review around the notion of identification conceived in that and the concept of party identification conceived in the second. First, the concept of identification in Freud and Lacan is characterized. Then, the concept of party identification developed initially by the Michigan School is discussed. Finally, we move forward with the ingenious intersection between Psychoanalysis and Politics proposed by Ernesto Laclau, showing more precisely his studies on identities and collective identifications. The article seeks to contribute to the theoretical development of the two fields of knowledge mentioned, despite the important differences between them. More precisely, the objective was to provide theoretical-conceptual additions to the explanations about partisanship, or anti-partisanship, in Brazil today.
