A short genealogy of the ultraconservative movement in Brazilian psychology
Abstract
This study discusses the relationship between politics and religion, from the analysis of the upraising movement of evangelicals in politics and their attempt to interfere in the ethical resolutions of Federal Council of Psychology (FCP). From this dispute, the movement entitled “Psychologists in Action” emerged, running the elections to FCP in 2019. Its main proposal was to overthrow Resolution 01/99, thus allowing psychologists to treat what they call egodystonic homosexuals. This movement was analyzed from the discussion of its campaign material. The results showed that an ultra-conservative project in Brazilian psychology is in progress, which aims to discredit practices and theories in the Human Sciences, based on the spread of what they call gender ideology. We explain the moral and religious basis that supports this concept and how much it seeks to strengthen the project of power sought by this conservative movement.
