Abstract

The article analyzes the collective implications of social distancing in the identity construction of subjects. This psychosocial category - identity - proved to be fruitful in enabling the understanding of the way in which the abrupt interactive and relational reorganization of the social web, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, added to the sufferings and disappointments of the subjects in the face of the hardships of the political moment, health, social and economic conditions of the country, objectively impacted the “world of life” and, consequently, the subjectivity and psyche of people. Furthermore, the manuscript shows that, during this period, especially in Brazil, the intensification of the ideologically productive and self-interested discourse of the “systemic order” contributed to sharpening people's suffering, negatively impacting their constitutive identity processes.
