Abstract

These writings aim to present an important community leader from a favela in Rio de Janeiro North zone, Bira Carvalho. Bira was a black man, from a favela and a wheelchair user. Based on its trajectory, we built reflexive clues for the articulation with the experience in favela and issues of disabilities, understanding the effects produced by totalizing narratives in relation to favela territories and people with disabilities inserted there. Throughout the article, the first clue runs through the construction of the idea and concept of disability. The second clue articulates Capacitism as structural violence that ends up in the lives of people with disabilities in slum territories. Understanding the interlocutions between disabilities and favelas and the urgency of broadening the debate around both issues, reflection in the field of narrative production and subjectivity becomes essential.
