The denial on the social scene: violence and segregation in the COVID-19 pandemic
violência e segregação na pandemia da COVID-19
Abstract
It is argued that the fear of Coronavirus contamination in contemporary times updates the discussion of Freudian malaise. Thus, in the course of 2020, in Brazil, it was realized that the virus affected all economic classes, but also exacerbate the social inequalities and racisms that already exist. The aim of this study is to propose a discussion on what is understood as an update on the effects of segregation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the traumatic character of non-dignification and recognition of the value of some lives in the current pandemic scenario. The lacanian notion of segregation and the ferenczian theory of trauma are the theoretical categories used. In conclusion, one points to the resurgence of a discursive logic that promotes social discredit, violence and apathy towards the pain of the most vulnerable.
