Abstract

In 2001, Sandoval Salvador introduced the Model of Political Consciousness (MPC), providing an operational tool to explore the widely acknowledged concept of political consciousness. This paper examines the academic community's adoption of the MPC and its impact on the evolution of Political Psychology in Brazil, utilizing a corpus of 28 articles from Brazilian journals between 2001 and 2021. Results highlight the MPC's appropriateness for analyzing political participation in diverse contexts, its applicability in both theoretical and empirical studies, and the potential for adapting its dimensions through various theoretical frameworks. Additionally, findings reveal a prevalent focus on left-leaning political actors and a prescriptive bias in certain analyses. The conclusion emphasizes the imperative to move beyond normative analyses for a comprehensive understanding of political consciousness in individuals and groups aligned with the extreme right.
