Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationships between nature and forms of care in the daily lives of residents of a quilombola community in inner Alagoas-Brasil. Participant research, in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a field diary were used as methodological instruments. In total, five residents of the quilombola community (four women and one man who were aged over 18 years), participated in this research. They were interviewed on daily care practices. Information analysis was carried out by thematic analysis, producing three analytical categories: nature and practices of care: countercolonial resistance, traditional care practices: possibilities for the continuity of life, and concepts of health and nature. These categories showed that relationships with nature play a fundamental role in the health and care production processes in the quilombola community.
