This study aims to analyze the poverty and working conditions of homeless people and the challenges for social policies. Homeless people live under poverty permeating objective and subjective dimensions. This qualitative research was based on individual interviews with 23 homeless people in three Brazilian municipalities. The information was analyzed on Atlas ti 5.2 based on content analysis. Invisibility, discrimination, prejudice and social exclusion are part of life on the streets. The experiences of poverty, homelessness, lack of food and access to public policies, and precarious jobs constitute vulnerabilities that mark this experience. Having access to dignified job conditions offers a possibility for homeless people to change this condition.
