Agrarian reform settlements are essential spaces for land restructuring and for building agroecological and counter-hegemonic alternatives in Brazil, with the potential to promote food and nutrition security (FNS). This integrative review of national literature investigated the relationship between FNS and food consumption in rural settlements, as well as the elements of the contribution of psychology to this topic. The analyzed studies show that decisions regarding food production for sale and self-consumption are limited by vulnerabilities and dependency on agricultural inputs and transgenic seed companies. The lack of effective public policies compromises FNS and the living conditions of settled families. Agroecology, when combined with consistent public policies, is identified as a strategic approach to confronting food and nutrition insecurity (FNI). There is also a noted absence of psychological studies focused on rural contexts and FNS, indicating the need for greater involvement of this field with ruralities and food and nutrition security.
