Routine and Health of the College Professor: Impact of COVID-19

Authors

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted teachers, students and the whole education system. The need for social distancing required university teaching to review educational practices and adopt the remote teaching model, which directly impacted the professors' activity. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the routine and health of the university professor, having as a research field a community university located in the north of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. For this purpose, we used quantitative research to validate the three proposed hypotheses. The results showed that COVID-19 negatively impacted the teachers' personal and professional routine and their physical and mental health, which were combined with work overload, ergonomic risks, and mixing of the family space with professional space, among other impacts. However, in the face of compulsory changes, reformulations in the teaching-learning system were applied, making it more creative, reflective, dialogical and emancipatory.
