Implications of Work Context on Teacher Wellbeing: a Scope Review

Authors

Abstract

Teaching is permeated by several contextual demands that reflect on the teacher's well-being; thus, the study aimed to map the environmental or circumstantial factors of the teaching action associated with the perception of well-being by teachers of basic and higher education segments. A scope review was carried out, with searches in the BVS, CAPES, BDTD, and ERIC databases, with the descriptors "well-being" and/or "teacher", in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, from 2011 to 2021. From the total of 962 studies found, 22 were selected. Several factors of the work context acted as conditioning factors of well-being, and its variation throughout the career was observed, highlighting the importance of valuing teaching and a supportive organizational culture that provides greater engagement and professional fulfillment. It is concluded by the importance of a positive environment, with the mitigation of stressors, providing the study subsidies for managerial actions and future research.

Keywords: well-being, work environment, teacher.
