Authors

Abstract

The objective of this article is to verify the psychometric properties of the Professional Demands of Military Firefighters Scale (EDPBM-BR), adapted for the Brazilian context. The exploration of the variables took place through focus groups with military firefighters from operational teams. A sample of 1327 firefighters answered the 12 item questionnaire, submitted to reliability and validation assessment. The exploratory factor analysis process resulted in 11 items subdivided into 3 factors, which indicated the 3 main categories of stressful events for this audience: chronic demands (DC), acute demands (AD), and organizational demands (DO). The Professional Demands of Military
Firefighters Scale contributes to the advancement of theories of well-being and occupational health in studies in the areas of health and work psychology, and human resources management, considering the reality of professionals who work in chronic risk conditions in the Brazilian context.

Keywords: occupational well-being, resource conservation theory, firefighters, psychometric validation.
