Do Junior Enterprises Provide Personal Changes in University Students?

Abstract

Junior Enterprises (JEs) are non-profit associations whose premises encourage both personal and professional development. Research has shown that students associated with JEs believe that among the desired personal changes are enhanced commitment, and ability to deal with emotions and challenging situations. Thus, this research aimed to verify and compare the expression of personality traits, emotional regulation, and coping with stress in 159 junior entrepreneurs from Minas Gerais (Mage = 21.40, SD = 2.684), split into groups according to the time they have been working (G1 = up to 12 months; G2 = from 12 to 24 months; G3 = more than 24 months). The data were treated with descriptive techniques, comparison between groups, and network perspective. There were no differences between the groups regarding the variables of interest, but they showed a distinct expected influence for each one. The data showed the need to implement strategies for the personal development of the volunteers in the JEs.

Keywords: junior entrepreneurs, college students, personal development.
