Authors

Abstract

Aging is a global phenomenon and impacts health, economy, and society, with specific consequences for working life and the transition to retirement. This study aims to understand the perceptions of work and retirement of public servants in a regional health department in the State of São Paulo. Exploratory and descriptive in nature, with 20 participants, qualitative methods, semi-structured interviews, and the Thematic Apperception test (TAT) were used. Content analysis and the TAT manual were used to interpret the data. The results are in line with the literature, demonstrating positive perceptions of work and retirement, in their multiple dimensions (freedom, new cycle) by the participants. Future studies on the topic are suggested, as well as the development of public policies and programs that assist this career transition process.
