Innovation Climate Scale (ICS): Construction and Evidence of Validity
Abstract
The innovation climate is essential for the survival of organizations, enabling adaptation to changes in the market, considering that a climate-centered approach provides targeted information for effective interventions. This study aimed to develop and validate a measure of organizational climate focused on innovation. To develop the instrument, publications on the topic and interviews with managers of companies were used. From a sample of 164 workers, factor analyses produced a total explained variance of 64.77%, with internal reliability of α = 0.91 and a final structure composed of 19 items distributed across 5 dimensions. Correlations with two innovation measurement scales were positive, with moderate to high effect sizes. The results indicate evidence of validity of the instrument, contributing to the national fields of management and organizational psychology, especially due to the foundation of this study on a theoretical-empirical basis that considers Brazilian cultural dynamics.
Keywords: organizational climate, focused organizational climate, scale validation.
