Passion for Work: Psychometric Properties and Relationships with Flow and Occupational Self-Efficacy
Abstract
Studies have suggested potential effects of passion for work on well-being in organizations. There is a lack of evidence to ensure the measurement of this construct in Brazil and the effects of the dimensions harmonious passion (HP) and obsessive passion (PO) on the flow experience and occupational self-efficacy. This research aimed to estimate new validity evidence of the Passion for Work Scale and to evaluate the association between passion, flow, and occupational self-efficacy. The sample consisted of 556 professionals (Mage= 34.8 ± 10.7; 58% women). Exploratory factor analysis suggested the adequacy of the structure composed of two-related factors, corresponding to the theoretical model. Structural Equation Modeling demonstrated that both forms of passion positively affected indicators of flow (absorption and intrinsic motivation), however only HP affected pleasure for work indicator and the occupational self-efficacy. Furthermore, it was observed the mediating role of flow in the relationship between passion and self-efficacy.
