What do We Know About the Effects of Teleworking? Considerations Regarding Psychology
Abstract
The expansion of telework makes relevant to question what effects the modality has on workers. The psychological scientific production was chosen as the objective of this review, in order to analyze the contributions of the area to the understanding of the telework phenomenon. For this, the search engines "telecommuting", "telework" and "home office" were used in the databases of the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (Lilacs), Psychology Electronic Journals (PEPsic) and APA PsycInfo, in the last 10 years, in English or Portuguese. Fourteen articles were selected. The results allow identify the role of organizational support, the potential of the modality to promote workers' well-being, as well as the challenges in family-work reconciliation. In addition to the empirical results on telework, ways to access the phenomenon were identified, sometimes focusing on the characteristics of the work, sometimes on the specificities of the workers.
