Abstract

The study aimed to propose and gather initial validity evidence for an instrument developed to identify the transversal and technical competencies of T-shaped professionals, who combine technical depth and transversal breadth in complex contexts. The research comprised two complementary studies. Study I consisted of developing the theoretical framework and constructing the instrument based on a literature review and content validation by experts. Study II investigated the instrument’s internal structure and reliability with 395 professionals using Exploratory Factor Analysis. The results indicated an exploratory multifactorial solution comprising seven factors conceptually related to transversal and technical competencies. The instrument provided initial validity evidence based on internal structure, with satisfactory reliability for the technical dimensions and aggregate scores of both competencies. The instrument therefore provides an initial basis for investigating competencies associated with the T-shaped profile, while additional validity evidence is required before its use in practical applications.
