Leadership Skills in Startups: Scoping Review
Keywords:
leadership, startup, competences, skillsAbstract
Leadership is considered crucial to the success of Startups, an innovative business model with unique challenges. This study aimed to identify the most valued characteristics and competencies in studies about Startup leaders, in order to collaborate with the development of tools, organizational practices, and information about how to support these roles. The scoping review involved five databases and followed the PRISMA protocol, considering peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2024. Seven articles were analyzed in full. The results show that the profile of a Startup leader is dynamic and uncertain, subject to numerous changes depending on the environment, requiring constant adaptation. Inciting and managing transformations, innovating, dealing with uncertainty, and building shared and solid relationships are fundamental profile characteristics for leaders in these contexts. The predominance of studies conducted in the US is noteworthy.
